Shobhakruthu Naama Samvatsaram: 2023
According to the Hindu Calendar, Ugadi falls on the first day of the Chaitra month. Yugadi means the beginning of new age. The day also marks the beginning of spring season, which is considered to be the first of all seasons, with plants, shoots, and leaves coming to life and therefore, the day is believed to set things rolling for a fresh and successful new beginning. Lord Sri Krishna said that among the seasons, spring season is most sacred.
It is also celebrated as Gudi Padwa in Maharasthra.
The nine day spring festival is celebrated beginning with Ugadi and ending with Sri Rama Navami. It is said and believed that by doing Panchanga Sravanam and praying the Navagraha at this moment on this day, auspicious results can be attained.
But the most unique and significant tradition of Ugadi is savoring a unique flavored pachadi (chutney). Ugadi pachadi is a combination of 6 tastes/flavours – salty, spicy, tangy, bitter, sour, and sweet. This signifies that life is a mixture of all emotions like happiness, sorrow, excitement, anger, fear, disgust & surprise which should be accepted together and with equanimity throughout the year.
