How Did This Happen?

I’m heartbroken by the death of Presley Gerber at just 27.

Whatever our opinions may be about fame, celebrity, or his family, this is ultimately about a young man who openly struggled with mental health and addiction and spent years trying to understand and help himself. He had a loving family, opportunities, success, and access to help, yet none of those things could protect him from what he was going through.

What strikes me most is how openly he spoke about the connection between his mental health, his lifestyle, physical activity, external validation, and the pressures that came with growing up in the spotlight. His story raises difficult questions for all of us, especially parents, about how we prepare young people for fame, pressure, and expectations.

We must ask ourselves whether we are giving them enough grounding, connection, and healthy ways to generate a sense of well-being from within.

It’s a heartbreaking reminder that what looks like a life of privilege and success from the outside can still hide an enormous amount of suffering.
