From Fun to Risk: The Reality of Roblox for Children
In 2023, as parents of my students would ask me about the safety of Roblox, I began researching about it. I was even beginning to teach it in my own classrooms, because it was a creative game that was both challenging and fun for my students.
Subsequently, I wrote about explicit content that’s available on Roblox and more recently, I wrote about incidents of grooming and sexual exploitation that’s been happening on the platform.
As with anything, it is deeply necessary for parents to stay in touch with the different applications and chat rooms that our children have access to. Thank you.
Is It OK to Let My Child Play Roblox?
I had even written an article to parents questions on if it was OK to let their children play Roblox. In this parent-friendly guide, I walk you through the reality behind the Roblox craze — what makes it fun and popular with kids, where risks can hide, and how you can actively guide your child’s experience.
You’ll learn how the platform works, what to watch out for (from in‑app purchases to inappropriate content and safety concerns), and how to set up parental controls, boundaries, and conversations that actually help your child thrive online. This isn’t a simple yes or no — it’s about awareness, education, and empowerment so you and your child can navigate gaming safely and confidently.
You can find it HERE.
Explicit Content on Roblox
If your kids play Roblox, there’s something every parent needs to know — and it’s urgent. In this article, I break down the rise of “condo” games on Roblox: hidden user‑created experiences that often include explicit adult content and interactions that are not appropriate for children.
These spaces can expose young players to suggestive behavior, sexualized chat, and risky encounters that fly under the platform’s radar — sometimes shared via external links or social channels. The piece arms parents with context, credentials, and clear reasons why learning about condos before it’s too late matters in keeping kids safe and informed in today’s digital play spaces.

Roblox Danger Exposed
Roblox’s open chat and private messaging features allow anonymous users to pose as children and initiate grooming. Predators often escalate interactions by moving conversations to unmonitored apps like Discord, exploiting gaps in Roblox moderation.
Even with parental controls enabled, research shows children can access sexually suggestive environments, overhear explicit content, and be approached by adults seeking personal information.
An NYT article in its September 2025 expose featured Ethan Dallas, a 15-year-old autistic boy who befriended another Roblox player calling himself Nate. Nate started grooming Ethan and taught him how to disable Roblox’s parental controls. Their conversations eventually moved to Discord. Ethan tragically killed himself after months of anger fits. His mother has filed lawsuits against Roblox and Discord and is likely fighting against “Nate,” who was likely a 37-year-old adult.
Recently, a 36-year-old Florida woman, Tara Sykes, was arrested after instructing a 10-year-old via Roblox to “drop” a 2-month-old baby onto a hard floor. She also told the child to slit the throats of adults in the home.
