Great Ways To Write A Poem
1. A great poem must inspire every reader to act.
2. It should feel relevant, and the concept must have universal appeal.
3. It’s a piece of art, so show your uniqueness with it.
4. Life’s already a huge puzzle, so don’t lead your reader on a mystery.
5. Don’t worry if others might judge you for writing it. That should not matter.
6. Even if it’s a forbidden thought, write it. Someone will understand it.
7. Let the line structure be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
8. If it truly comes for your heart, it will sound original.
9. Don’t fall for cliches, it can get pretty boring without any novel word play.
10. Give your poem the context of a past, now, and the hope of a future.
11. Give permission to the reader to feel your existential angst.
12. Give your timeless poem a title only at the very end.

Who Loved Best?
“I love you, Mother,” said little John;
Then, forgetting his work, his cap went on,
And he was off to the garden-swing,
And left her the water and wood to bring.
“I love you, Mother,” said rosy Nell –
“I love you better than tongue can tell;”
Then she teased and pouted full half the day
Till her mother rejoiced when she went to play.
“I love you, Mother,” said little Fan;
“To-day I’ll help you all I can;
How glad I am school doesn’t keep!”
So she rocked the babe till it fell asleep.
Then, stepping softly, she fetched the broom
And swept the floor and tidied the room;
Busy and happy all day was she,
Helpful and happy as child could be.
“I love you, Mother,” again they said,
Three little children going to bed.
How do you think that mother guessed
Which of them really loved her best?
