What is AQ?
AQ, Adversity Quotient, is a measure of how we react and respond to setbacks we face in life. Along with IQ and EQ, having a superior AQ is extremely important for all of us. It helps us see the gaps in the gains we have achieved and increase our productivity, boost our self-confidence and lift our morale when things don’t look good. Having a great AQ helps us look for solutions instead of magnifying our problems.
What Is Resilience?
We want to raise our children to be kind and loving people. We tell them to value compassion more than anything else in life. Ideal parents want to empower their children to believe in themselves and encourage them to realize their highest potential. But, how can they ensure that their children will follow through with their dreams and stay on the course when the going gets tough?
That’s when the lessons of resilience come into play. Resilience is the quality of unstoppable determination with which humans are capable of bouncing back after a tragedy, major adversity or a personal/professional set back. Resilience is our ability to get back up after a fail and try harder the next time.
It’s how we cope with change, trauma and anguish. It is how we embrace forgiveness for our shortcomings and try better next time. Inspite of what rocks our boat, it is how can we learn to look at our setbacks as new insights and continue to move forward.
How Can We Build Resilience?
Humans are already built we with an “Do It” attitude which is our inherent resilience. We must simply rediscover this inner strength each time we lose it to tough obstacles on the road to our mission. It’s our will to live with a purpose, and it’s a responsibility we give ourselves that makes us grow stronger, confident and free to lead.
And while we’re on it, some of us can wonder if resilience can be taken too far?
Yes, when we don’t know when to give up, our relentless tenacity can become a distraction. Be flexible enough to know where in that path you have to stop being persistent.
