Our friends invited us to the Chattahoochee Nature Center for a Sunset & Sips concert. Free food, drinks, music, and a chance to unwind in nature. How could we say no?
It was a gorgeous evening, with no hint of the heavy summer heat that had been upon us just 48 hours earlier.
A band played and engaged the crowd with trivia between songs. I don’t know much about Western music, so my husband kept helping me with the questions the lead singer threw at us.
At one point, as she sang, my husband leaned over and told me it was a Fleetwood Mac song. Except when it was time to answer, she asked me for the name of the specific song.
Of course, the other lady who had raised her hand won the shot glass. Bummer.
During the break, we walked on the boardwalk and stared at the moon and the moonlight stream on the ground.
We eventually left as the singer performed The Eyes of the Rising Sun.
I looked up the lyrics:
Sunrise
I feel her energy emanating
Lying beside her in the hypnopompic shadow-realm
Between this world and the palace of dreams
I hear her thoughts
I see the rainbow tapestry of their meticulous promise
Manifest in the charmed reflections across the bedroom wall
The architecture of divinity interwoven in the sunflower spiral
I see it all, through the eyes of the mind ablaze
Through the eyes of the rising sun
This feels like an ode to the moment of the sunrise that is a threshold for the glorious day ahead that is “our palace of dreams”.
Wish each day started and ended with this kind of magic where people came across irrespective of their age and race to spend time in nature and dance.
If you haven’t been to the Chattahoochee Nature Center, go when you have some time.
Yeah, I know that nature is everywhere. But there is something special about a place deliberately curated to bring people into nature, music, art, and community — to create an ecosystem where we can slow down enough to actually notice where we are.
