Your child has started driving the car. More importantly they’ve moved into college but has requested to have their car on campus. It’s time to give them the principles for staying alive, staying out of trouble, and being responsible for other people.
Feel free to personalize these “Stay alive and drive” car commandments to your own child:
* No phone while driving. DND or Driving Mode before the car moves.
* Mom and dad will never be on your DND.
* Your location can never be off for dad and mom.
* Seat belts. Every person in the first row, second row, 100th row.
* No passengers riding in the trunk, cargo area, roof, etc, maybe I need to write this down too.
* No driving after 11pm. If you have a real reason to be out later, call me before you put yourself or your friends on the road. I’m happy to drive you anywhere and however long.
* You can’t be shipping around a friend / stranger who is drunk or is using drugs. Get them an Uber, I will pay.
* No one else can drive the car.
* Parking violations and tickets will be 100% not paid by dad or mom.
* If you get into a issue with the car, I need to know even if it is at 2am.
* If you’re too tired to drive, go to a motel nearby and sleep.
* If your friends need to talk to me about these insane rules, I am happy to dial them up personally.
FINAL REQUEST: Think for yourself as the car owner. One bad decision can quickly become five.

Articles On Mindful Parenting
It’s not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can’t tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself.
