One of the biggest game changers for me in terms of how I live my life now is after I found out about the concept of Gratitude. Here’s a simple exercise for you to understand the concept. Subtract everything you have, your health children, your living parents, your health … The list goes on, but the point is, look at your life in the absence of all these things that give menaning and joy to your life. And that’s when you will understand how to be grateful for all the things you already have.

In a profound email Steve Jobs sent to himself in 2010, the Apple co-founder reflected on the deep interdependence of human life. From the food we eat and the clothes we wear to the language we speak, laws that protect us, music that moves us, and even the foundational technologies like the transistor and microprocessor — which none of us create these alone.

Jobs humbly acknowledged 13 months before he died. “I love and admire my species, living and dead, and am totally dependent on them for my life and well being.”

This quiet meditation serves as a powerful reminder to cultivate gratitude for the countless contributions of others that make our existence possible.
