The Balanced Child Initiative

Children can be taught to appreciate what they have, value hard work and take personal responsibility for making choices. Children who live well balanced emotional and social lives thrive better than others. These are the principles behind our modules within The Balanced Child Initiative for 4th to 5th graders. 

An initiative has 3 SERIES => 12 MODULES each => Taught in one hour class over the course of 12 weeks.

The ENGAGE Series

* Happy Child: Let’s talk about what makes us happy. And let’s change the way we see ourselves.
* Learn To Listen: The first step for any learning is learning to listen. You first listen, before you can think and act.
* Hear Me Out: Why do we love our family? We will talk about all the things we love about our school and community.
* How Do You Know? How do you know if mommy is sad? What makes you happy? What are feelings?
* Let’s Tell Stories: Tell each other our favorite stories and ask ourselves what lessons do they teach us.
* What Do We Do? Who are our real life heroes? What are our responsibilities as kids – To have fun and learn.
* Simplify Your Speak: Don’t fall for the curse of knowledge. How to speak with clarity, focus and deliberation.
* Read Out Loud: Read out loud so we can learn correct pronunciation and improve your diction.
* My Story: We all love stories. But what if our life is our story, what would be doing to make it interesting?
* Say What? How to think before speaking, how to speak with clarity and confidence.
* Look Your Best: Dress up to put your best face forward. Express yourself while still staying with comfort.
* How Can We help? What are problems? And how can we help our friends, family and the world?

The ENERGIZE Series

* Write Right: Learn the elements of effective writing – The hook, the plot and the subject.
* Find Your Voice: Understand your ideas, your likes and your values. Find out what makes you unique.
* Try Again Harder: Thinking of the problem or the past won’t get us anywhere, let’s start planning solutions.
* Say This Not That: We can use a few words from the dictionary that can change our attitude towards problems.
* Learning Limits: While sky is the limit for our potential, our actions and our words need boundaries.
* Be a Good Friend:Who is a good friend, how can we be one and make some friends to keep.
* Read Out Loud: Read out loud so we can learn correct pronunciation and improve your diction.
* Respecting Others: Respecting others is key for collaboration and it starts with respecting your own strengths.
* Learn Your Adjectives: Add these adjectives to your name – Consistent; Dependable; Inspiring; Funny; Positive;
* Show and Tell: If you want to change something, first be the change yourself. Show and then tell.
* Set Goals: Think and set some fun goals – for this school year, for 5 years from now and for how to live life.
* Super Heroes: Do you know any real life super heroes? What will you do to become one?

The EMPOWER Series

* Be Your Best: Let’s learn to manage our thinking, our feelings and our attitudes to become our personal best.
* Give Back: We will explore topics like contribution, collaboration and the power of reciprocity.
* Make Good Decisions: Terrible things from our past can stop us from moving forward. Let’s learn to dream big inspite of everything.
* Nature Made: We live in the world of nature and man. What is nature teaching us about how to live our life?
* Values With Vocabulary: What are the values of integrity, courage, hard work and cooperation? How can we use them in our life?
* Honesty Pays: Honesty is doing something right even when no one is looking. Why is it important?
* Manage Your Time: Time is finite for everyone, then how can we manage time if we can’t manage our priorities?
* Team Work: Learn the tips of effective collaboration. Learn how to manage expectations and peer pressure.
* Penmanship: We will talk about the dying art of good hand writing and what our handwriting tells the world about us.
* You Rock: You know what we think about you and your ideas? You rock and you’re awesome just the way you are.
* Happy Child: Let’s talk about what makes us happy. And let’s change the way we see ourselves.
* Keynote Speaker: We will talk about a topic that interests us the most. We will be the key note speaker of the day.
